Despite all the scams, there are legitimate work-at-home jobs in the marketplace. The hard part is to discover where the real paying jobs are. Many of the offers you’ll run across or just rip-off artists looking for more people to take advantage of. This checklist can help you determine whether it’s a real opportunity or just another scam. 1. Ask about the ‘cost’ of getting the advertised job. Ask also what supplies or equipment are required, if any. Real work-at-home jobs won’t ask you to spend any of your own money buying stuff, they pay YOU instead. Never ever pay a company to work for them. 2. Find out what tasks you need to perform before you can be paid. This is a key question, and you deserve and answer. All jobs have a job description of one sort or another. If there is any hesitancy on the part of the supposed employer to answer this, or the answer doesn’t seem right, move on to the next one. 3. Ask if you are to be paid on a commission basis, an hourly basis, a per-piece basis or a fixed salary. This is another place you should beware of any employer who hesitates at all to answers, or can’t give a clear understandable response. Your payment will be based on one of the above methods. Find out what is expected of you as far as time keeping or project deadlines, and when you get paid accordingly. 4. Find out who is paying you and how often you get paid. This easy question deserves and easy response. Any legitimate business or employer has specific payment terms. You need to know when to expect payment whether it is once a month, every two weeks, and so on. 5. Where is the business located? This question is important for anyone working at home. If you had a regular job at a regular office, you would of course know where you had to go to work. On the Internet however, you never can be sure, and could be working for someone in Japan. Find out where the company is physically located. 6. Ask how you will get work instructions, and from whom. Since you are on the computer for most of this type of work, you will need to know if your duties will come to you over email, instant messaging, or other manner. 7.
Find out who you’ll be getting instruction from
at the company. Whether you’re
working online or taking work home from a bricks and mortar business, you’ll
need to know who your “boss” is who will be sending you instructions, and
which person is the one to go to for information and help.
Sometimes more than one person is running the company, but you should
not have to figure out yourself who is giving you direction.
