Working MLM Leads for your Network Marketing
Business
By David Peterson
You just purchased a batch of 100 network marketing leads. These
network-marketing leads are fresh. They are no more than 24-hours old. They are
exclusive to you. These 100
network-marketing leads are made up of people just
like you. People who want to own a home based business. People who need a home
based business for a variety of reasons.
Your network-marketing leads probably came in an Excel spread sheet or a CSV
file (comma delimited). If you are working leads like these for the first time
you are probably taken back a little by what you are actually getting.
What you are getting is raw data. Basically this is a list of names, addresses,
phone
numbers, email addresses and any other fields
requested. Opening up a list like this for the first time you get the
"where do I start feeling." 100 names with all of the other raw data
looks like seafood gumbo at first glance. If you take a 2nd and a 3rd look at
the network marketing leads you will notice there is nothing to fear. These are
real people just like you.
How should you work the network marketing leads?
If you have really never sold anything before I would offer this routine for
working with these network marketing leads:
1) To start write yourself an introductory script. This script will be used
during your initial calls to the prospects. It should be short and brief,
approximately 3-4 lines. Use it on every call. Memorize it. In the 3-4 lines
tell the prospect who you are, why you are calling, and also state a very brief
open ended question like: "Hi Mr. Jones my name is David Peterson. I am
calling in response to the home-based business opportunity request that you
filled out on August 12th. What would your honest opinion be if I told you I
could hand you a home business that would be profitable the first day it
opened?" The object of an opening statement is to give you a professional
approach and allow the prospect to open up just a little. You want to get the
prospect talking.
2) The leads are fresh so get started calling on them right away. Yes you have
to call them. Start calling today. Check the area code to make sure you are not
waking anyone up. (Go to http://www.USReference.com
for a quick reference printable area code sheet.) Although the leads are
exclusive the prospect has probably filled out other lead forms as well. The
quicker you call your prospects the better off you will be.
3) If you get in touch with your network-marketing prospect by phone then
immediately follow up with an email campaign using your autoresponder. If you
didn't get a hold of the prospect continue to call at different times throughout
the day. Also start a separate autoresponder campaign for the contacts that have
not been contacted. All of the autoresponder email campaigns should be geared to
getting the network-marketing prospect on the phone. You need the opportunity to
explain to the prospect why you need and enjoy the products. You also need the
opportunity to explain how the company has personally benefited you financially
and how it will benefit the prospect financially. Don't rely on email to close
the deal. You can rely on email to get the prospect to the table but you will
eventually have to tell your story to close the deal.
4) When you get the network marketing prospect on the phone or even in your
email conversations you have to probe. Prospects don't become customers unless
all of their objections to joining your organization have been cleared up.
Resist the temptation to explain the entire company's philosophy. What ends up
happening is you do all of the talking and the prospect is actually watching TV
with the phone to his ear. Keep the prospect engaged in the conversation. Ask
open ended questions to get the prospect talking about why they want a home
based business. Is it money, family, commuting, rat race? What is it that made
that prospect fill out the network marketing lead in the first place? If you
don't get that information you will not close
5) Finally once you know why the prospect wants to be a home based business
owner you have to close. Ask a lot of trail closes like: "If this program
could do this would you join?" If you hear "yes" then stop
talking and take the prospect straight to the signup page. In fact - why don't
you enter all of the information for them so they just have to give you their
credit card number? When you enter it you know it's getting done.
Finding a network marketing prospect and turning that into a network marketing
customer takes leads. Once you get the leads you need to focus all of your
attention on those leads. Work those network marketing prospects using a
combination of email and the phone. The leads may look like seafood gumbo at
first glance but those are people just like you. They just need to be sold.

On MLM Lead Generation

A few more brief comments on MLM lead generation....
1. The quality of the lead source is only one
factor.....important but not as much a contibutor as
"you". You are the determiner of the real success with
any lead source. That's why peoples experiences vary so much.
2. Success with leads is most about numbers, time, &
"you". Sufficient numbers, followed consistently over
time (minimum of 6 months), & applying a disciplined method
of follow-up will show results with most any lead source.
3. A quality generic lead source is a good thing (must be
pre-qualified, 48 hrs old or less, non-shared, & exclusive
to warrant quality label). Company generated specific leads are
a better "good thing". Generating quality leads
yourself is the best "good thing". Doing all 3 is the
"really best good thing". Everything else is a waste.
I'm sorry but comments like "I tried a batch & they
didn't work" (insufficient numbers &
time)....."they sucked" (absent detail on your
contact/follow-up method, numbers & time).....etc. don't
really support a position very well.
Understand that there really are only a very few legit quality
lead sources (private generators not available to general
public) that all the quality leads programs use to some extent.
Plus the quality leads programs will also generate their own
leads too as a major part of their "program".....AND
give you the ability to do the same thing. So actually there's
not a lot of difference between the top lead programs....and
there are very few of them.
The others are just knock offs buying the leads from wherever
they can get them at the lowest cost possible....and/or creating
their own co-registration leads (folks who "sign-up"
for some kind of a freebie or a contest) then reselling them to
you.....pure junk.
Just because it's cheap doesn't make it good. Just because it
costs more doesn't make it bad. Cost is relative to each
individual when all "you" factors discussed in my
article "What's The Straight Scoop On MLM Leads
Programs?" are present & functioning effectively.
Herein lies your first business decision when it comes to leads.
Do you buy them from a quality source (generic &/or company
specific....financial cost but saves you time & effort of
generating them yourself).....or do you generate your own
(invest time & effort but lower your financial cost).
Your choice based soley on what's best for you.
And remember...you CAN do both.

How
to Get the Most Out of a Leads Group

The Client Attraction Coach (tm)
Most entrepreneurs are familiar with the concept of networking
or leads groups. They are in cities all across North America and
around the world.
These groups typically meet once per week for the purpose of
exchanging leads among their members. Usually only one person
per occupation is allowed to join the group so there is never
any competition for referrals.
Lots of people join these groups, and most people prosper
tremendously from them. If you're serious about increasing your
business, you'll find no better team to help you than the
dedicated members of your leads group.
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your
association with your local leads club:
-- Most groups have a structured system in place that is
designed specifically to maximize the number of leads exchanged
every week. The more you work the system, the more that system
will work for you.
-- Members who understand that their leads group is NOT an
extracurricular activity and treat is as seriously as they would
any other business meeting tend to be far more successful in
generating leads.
-- Belonging to more than one leads group at a time can have a
very negative effect on your ability to generate leads for
yourself.
If your groups all restrict membership to one person per
occupation and you have a lead for an accountant, for example,
to which accountant in which group will you give your lead?
The members of each group will begin question your loyalty to
their respective group members and your ability to generate
leads for yourself in each group will be diluted by the number
of groups to which you belong. You are far better off belonging
to just one leads group and spreading your other networking
activities out in different areas.
-- Regular attendance is essential if you want to not only
reinforce who you are and what you do, but also if you want to
be seen as someone who cares about the other members'
presentations. Remember, you're there to give as well as to get.
When you show people you care about them, they, in turn, will
care about you and your business growth.
-- The most successful members are those who get together
outside of the meetings and actually go to one another's places
of business.
A restaurant might be a nice place for a social meeting, but
nothing beats a referral where you can actually give directions,
describe the office, and where you have had the opportunity to
meet managers, staff, etc. Meeting in an office also prompts
people to dig into their databases for referrals. I've seen it
happen time and time again.
-- Serving on the group's leadership team not only develops
strong leadership skills, it showcases your talents as a
businessperson. The work you do as a volunteer is indicative of
the work you do professionally, so roll up your sleeves, dig in,
and knock everyone's socks off by doing an outstanding job.
-- Generating leads from group members comes from forming
relationships with them. This takes time. Use this time wisely
to get to know the other members and understand how you can best
serve them and their needs. It's all about giving, and remember,
what goes around, comes around.
-- Becoming proactive in recruiting new members does wonders for
your business growth. Don't forget that while you're extolling
the merits of your leads group, you're giving out your own
business card. Also, every new member exposes each and every one
in the group to scores of new opportunities.
If you gather that I think leads groups are a great way to
garner new business, you're right! :-) I would strongly
encourage every solo professional, small business owner, and
entrepreneur to seek out and join a group that best suits their
needs.
Bottom Line: You reap what you sow and there's no more fertile
ground than a group whose success is based upon your success.
