Your Name: June
E Sheward
Name of company: Once
Upon A Family
Business Description: Once
Upon A Family offers ideas and products to help busy families create
family traditions, preserve cherished keepsakes and record family
heritage.
Are you married? Children? Yes,
I've been married for almost 10 yrs and have two children ages 1 and 3
Why
did you join this company?
I
was attracted to their unique products and was impressed with their
vision of changing the world one family at a time. I feel
priviledged to have the opportunity to help other families learn ways to
build stronger ties...I feel like I'm doing something that is totally
worthwhile and meaningful.
How
long have you been in the work at home business? About
7 months.
How long have you
been with this company? 2 months.
What is the
startup investment? There
are 3 kits you can choose from...the smallest kit is only $125.
However, there is a way to get $75 off of the price of your kit.
Your
biggest challenges: My biggest challenge is recruiting.
I'm not very good at asking people to join me. I totally believe
in what I'm doing and I love it, but I'm afraid that people will think
I'm being "fake" or too pushy if I talk to them about joining
Once Upon A Family.
Tell
us about your successes: I'm the only Consultant in my
area for Once Upon A Family and I've had very good responses at all of
my Celebrations. I'm doing very well with sales.
Do
you advertise your business online? How much do you spend? What
advertising has worked for you? I have done some
advertising online...I try not to spend more than $25 for an ad.
I've advertised on wahm billboards and have gotten some responses from
that.
Tell
us about any games you use successfully at your home parties: I
haven't used any games yet but there are a couple I'm thinking about.
One is to give out "auction dollars" for things like being on
time, bringing a friend, hosting a party, etc...as well as things like
wearing a certain color or sharing a tradition...at the end of the
Celebration I would then auction off a wrapped gift.
How do you balance work and family? I try to do most of
my "busy" work when my kids are napping or in bed for the
night. I usually do 2 Celebrations a week in the evenings when my
husband is home to watch the kids. It has worked out really well
for us.
How
about some advice for people who are looking into a work at home
business? If it sounds too good to be true, it
probably is. Don't fall for promises of riches in no time with no
effort. Anything that you will be successful at will take time and
effort. Also, (like everyone else says:-) pick something that
you can be passionate about. After the novelty has worn off you'll
want to be involved in something you honestly believe in and feel
strongly about. Your passion will not only help you succeed, but
it will sustain you through the "lean" times of your
business.
What
are your business goals for 2004-2005? My
goals are to continue to spread the word about Once Upon A Family
and also to build a strong team...a team where everyone is equally
important and we all work together to insure everyone's success.
Is there a company
website provided? Cost? Yes, there is a company website
available. There is a one time start up fee of $20 and then just
$10 a month.
What are the minimum monthly or quarterly
sales, if any? There are no minimums.
What is your commission on your own sales? 20%
on sales under $500 a month, 25% on sales of $500 or more a month.
What suggestions do you have for new
business startups? Don't try to do everything all at once.
I'm guilty of feeling like I have to have everything from the
beginning...but you don't. Just decide what your necessities are
and start with those. You can always build as time and profits
allow.
