Mentoring: it can help but do you have the time? A "mentor". A mentor is
a person who will educate you and counsel you about some aspect of your life. process. This article is going to discuss what’s required
in order to make a mentoring program work from the viewpoint of the person
being mentored. The first thing you need, as somebody being mentored, is a
program that is worth getting into. The problem is, how do you know if it is
before you actually get into it? There is an easy way to find out. Contact the
person who you plan to be mentored by and ask them specifically what topics
they will be focusing on. Get an idea of what it is that you’ll be learning.
Then make an evaluation as to how much help that information will be to you.
But find out what you’re getting into first. The second thing that is important is the actual success of
the person who is going to be mentoring you. This is easy enough to research.
People who are very successful online usually have a ton of information about
them online. By simply going to any search engine and looking up their name,
you can get a pretty decent idea of how successful they are. This will in turn
give you a good idea of how much help they will be to you. The third thing you need to do is look at your own
schedule. Do you have the time for this mentoring? Believe it or not,
mentoring is a time consuming process at both ends. The mentor has to put
together a lot of material and the person who is being mentored has to put in
the time. The information won’t magically go into his brain. So if you work
a full time job and only have maybe an hour a day for mentoring, the chances
of you getting anything out of it are going to be very slim. And that brings us to our fourth point…commitment. This
doesn’t have anything to do with time, as people will little time can still
be committed, where people with all the time in the world can spend it playing
video games. You have got to be committed to this process. If you think
mentoring is easy, it is not. Your mentor, if he is worth his salt, will
require many things from you. In most cases, their rules are simple. Mentoring
will continue as long as you complete the assignments. As soon as you don’t,
mentoring ends. If this sounds unfair, please look at it from the viewpoint of
the mentor. He is going to be putting in a lot of time and effort into
teaching you. The least he expects in return is YOUR commitment. I don’t
think that is asking too much.
