Diabetes Blogs - Personal Views About A Growing National Plague

Statistics provided by the American Diabetes Association are frightening. A full 7% of the U.S. population have some form of diabetes. The total number

of diagnosed people with diabetes is an astounding 14.6  million with another 6.2 million who are not aware of their condition (undiagnosed).

The numbers get more shocking. 54 million people are in a stage of "pre-diabetes." If you over 60 years old, 10.3 million, or 20.9% of this age group are struggling with diagnosed diabetes. Based on ethnicity, Native American Indians are the most likely people to have diabetes. People with Afro-American heritage are 2 to 4 times more likely to contract diabetes.

Diabetes is currently the 5th most common cause for death. Some complications include heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, blindness, kidney disease, amputations, dental disease, pregnancy complications and sexual dysfunction.

So, it is not a big surprise that people are turning to personal blogs to learn more about this very serious but controllable condition.

Are you looking for information about diabetes? Some of the best information is provided

by people who have diabetes themselves. Many of them are blogging about their life with diabetes. Because this awful disease makes a person take extra responsibilities for his own health and happiness, it is not surprising that there are hundreds of people blogging about it.

If you read some of the diabetes blogs you will find both anger and laughter. I found the posts to have an underlying theme of coping with life under stressful conditions.

Read through these high quality diabetes blogs for information and inspiration.

Scott’s Diabetes Blog
Scott writes an interesting blog and updates it regularly, about once a week. He supplies pictures as he talks about his life with diabetes.

My Diabetes Blog
This blogger offers graphic text about how to take insulin.  He blogs about "Bolus" which is a single dose of a drug taken all at once. He describes "Basal" that describes insulin administered once a day to maintain your "background level of insulin at a safe level."

Scot Hanselman provides a diabetes blog with many interesting posts. Some topics here include "traveling as a diabetic", "diabetes technology", the "Continuous Glucose System", and a "timeline of diabetic care." This diabetes blog is extremely valuable.

Health Central provides many good diabetes blogs hosted on their site.

Diabetes Mine - Amy Tenderich was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2003. Amy is a writer who works hard to maintain optimum health. She says, "I started this blog as a place to sort out and share some “diabetes smarts” (pardon the pun) –– a gold mine of informational nuggets, if you will..."

DiabetesBlog.com provides a great list of discussion forums for diabetics.
